quick question upgrade options upon release

Quick question Re: Upgrade options upon release

Hi,
I'm not an IT professional so forgive me for asking this question.
Will Vista be available as an upgrade from MCE 2005 or will it only be sold with new hardware like all versions of MCE to-date?
Many thanks,
Dan

Yes there will be an upgrade path (but as always, anything is subject to change), the Editions of Windows Vista that will support upgrading from Windows XP MCE 2005 include Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate, I wrote a small article about this, you might want to check it out, I am afraid you won't be able to upgrade to Home Premium x64 and Ultimate x64 from XP MCE 2005 since that is a x86 operating system.

Many thanks Andre.
Do we know what the release date is yet for Vista - I heard it could be as late as Jan 07 for release in the UK?
Thanks again,
Dan

Right now, the word is, the retail copies of Vista will be available world wide in January 2007, OEMs and Volume License customers will receive Windows Vista in November. Just when those PCs preloaded with Windows Vista will be available is still unknown. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

Hmmm.... it is more likely that "N" Editions will take an extra few months, and as with other major OS releases, it does only seem that we get the release after about 3 months of RTM so yeh, could be a little longer for us :o(
